Brooklyn Comfort Opens On Church Avenue
Don’t let the old awning deceive you–international cozy food joint Brooklyn Comfort is now open in the former Kennedy Chicken & Gyro space at 221 Church Avenue (between E 2nd and E 3rd Streets). The decor is minimal, but what the restaurant may lack in ambiance, it more than makes up for in service and delicious, fresh food.
We ordered the sauteed tilapia, which comes with a choice of salad, rice, or mashed potatoes and is a great deal at $8. It took about 10 minutes to prepare, which can only be expected if you’re looking for healthy food made to order.
The dish smelled so fantastic, it was difficult to make it home and not just plunk down on a curb and open it up–but the wait was well worth it. The potatoes were beautifully seasoned and the fish tender and flavorful, and the two sauces recommended to us were each wonderful in their own right.
The homemade hot sauce was delicious, if not for the faint of heart–and thankfully, the creamy yogurt and dill sauce was great for cooling things down.
The restaurant will be expanding their menu, hopefully adding breakfast in the weeks to come as well as changing things up seasonally, but for now they have sandwiches, soups, a small selection of entrees, and desserts, as well as natural drink options like Honest Tea and coconut water.
They’ll also deliver and accept credit cards in the future, but for now, they’re cash, sit-down, and take-out only, and are open from 12-10pm seven days a week.
All in all, Brooklyn Comfort is a friendly, affordable, healthy, and scrumptious addition to a strip that was in sore need of something to check all those boxes. Next time, we hope to try the coconut curry tofu or herb-baked chicken–how about you?
