Bring Bags Of Fall Leaves To Project LeafDrop Locations

The annual Project LeafDrop, where community gardens and other organizations collect leaves from neighbors to turn into compost, is now underway. If you’ve got a tree shedding its leaves into your area, once you’ve raked and bagged them into paper or clear plastic bags (just leaves — no branches, twigs, or trash), consider dropping them off at one of these nearby locations:

GreenSpace Native Plant Community Garden
207 4th Avenue, between Sackett & Union Streets
Accepting leaves on Saturdays from 11am-1pm through November 22. To schedule additional drop-off dates or times, contact jjanda@igc.org. All bagged leaves welcome, but they’d appreciate it if oak leaves are bagged separately.
Warren St. Marks Community Garden
Entrance to garden at Warren St. & at St. Marks Place between 4th & 5th Avenues.
Accepting leaves from 10am-12:30pm on the following days:: Saturdays, November 15 and 22 and Sundays, November 16 and 23.
6/15 Green
6th Avenue at 15th Street
Accepting leaves on the following Saturdays from 11am-1pm: November 15, 22, 29, and December 6.

Of course, this year many neighbors can also simply leave bags of leaves curbside for composting as part of the organic waste recycling pilot program. Though you can put some small amounts of leaf and yard waste in your brown bin, you’ll want to bundle or bag up (in paper lawn bags if possible) any large amounts and put that next to your bin on the day it goes out curbside.
