June is National LGBT Pride Month and BRIC is holding a panel on the future of of the LGBTQ+ rights movement.

BRIC will present a live town hall discussion entitled “Pride 20/20: LGBTQ Civil Rights” at 7pm on June 14 at the BRIC Arts Media House (647 Fulton Street.)  The event is co-sponsored by Housing Works and will be televised.  Tickets are free with your RSVP.

The event is meant to create a “powerful dialogue around LGBTQ rights and equality over the next four years,” according to the website, and will “look at issues like LGBTQ civil rights, job & housing discrimination, racial disparities, and health.”

The discussion will be moderated by Brian Vines and will feature a bevy of commentators. Among them will be:

Meredith Talusan, Buzzfeed News’ LGBT staff writer
  • Professor Katherine Franke, the director of the Columbia University Center for Gender & Sexuality Law
  • Kiara St. James of Housing Works and the New York Trans Advocacy Group
  • Kenyon Farrow, the US & global health policy director at Treatment Action Group,
  • Carl Siciliano, the executive director of the Ali Forney Center

The event comes a year after the historic Supreme Court decision Obergefell v. Hodges decision in which same-sex marriage was legalized across the fifty states and nearly half a century after the Stonewall protests. Fort Greene and Clinton Hill celebrated the news with displays of support like rainbow flags and supportive statements from local leaders and businesses.
