Breaking Ground At 596 Washington Avenue
We noticed walking by last week that a backhoe was turning up the concrete at 596 Washington Avenue (at Atlantic Avenue), formerly Muhammad’s Tire Mecca. The construction fence is up–though no permits were, when we passed by–for a six-story apartment building planned for the corner.
BuzzBuzzHome reported last summer that a roughly 13,000 sq ft building would be coming to the site from S3 Architecture and Chess Builders LLC, but it took until September 11 of this year to file the first permit for the address–also known as 863 Atlantic Avenue.
The building will consist of retail space on the ground floor, as well as 16 rental units including duplexes. All units will have a balcony, terrace, or patio, according to BBH, and tenants will have access to a shared roof deck.
596 Washington will sit just across from the former Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception seminary-turned-condos at 555 Washington, which are certainly beautiful. As multiple Brownstoner commenters noted recently, however, Washington and Atlantic isn’t the most peaceful or quite intersection; and, as commenters on our site have noted, there’s a lot of luxury housing going up (we’re counting duplexes and private outdoor space as luxury, in case there’s any question there) in Clinton Hill as of late.
So, what do you think about the plans and location of 596?
