Give Your Input On Greenpoint’s Box Street Park Tonight
GREENPOINT – The New York Department of Parks and Recreation will be holding a public scoping meeting tonight in Greenpoint to hear input on the design of the long-awaited Box Street Park coming to the northernmost tip of Brooklyn.
Slated for 6:00 pm at the Polish & Slavic Center at 176 Java Street, the meeting will give community members and advocacy groups an opportunity to voice their concerns about the park and tell the city what they’d like to see in the green space.
Slated to open in 2019, the park will be a key public element along the Greenpoint waterfront, which is already seeing the effects of rezoning with massive high-rise residential developments springing up. Local groups like the Open Space Alliance for North Brooklyn and Friends of Box Street Park will be in attendance.
Local community members have also taken to Facebook to encourage residents to attend and lobby for a dog park in northside Greenpoint:
In the Greenpoint-Williamsburg Waterfront Open Space Master Plan, the park will include a multi-purpose soccer pitch, restrooms, a shaded viewing area and a kayak launch. That’s a preliminary design, though, so all local residents are encouraged to come out tonight and make their voices heard!
