Borough President Adams Announces $50 Million Investment in STEAM Education for Brooklyn Schools
Last week, Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams announced an investment of more than $55 million in funds for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) education in Brooklyn schools.
The funds represent more than half of Borough Hall’s capital budget for 2018 and a doubling of STEAM-focused spending since last year. The money will flow to 150 public, charter and private schools, from pre-k to higher education, throughout 40 neighborhoods in Brooklyn.
“A noted educator once said, ‘don’t tell me where your priorities are…show me where you spend your money and I’ll tell you what they are,’” said Borough President Adams in a statement.
“I am prioritizing the development of the next generation of young leaders in Brooklyn. This is about keeping Brooklyn’s kids at the forefront of technological change, innovation, and preparing them for challenges to come,” he said, locating hopes for Brooklyn’s future in its ability to compete in the “innovation economy.”
