BKLYNER Weekend Events Spotlight: February 10-12, Anti-Valentine’s Day Edition

For all those looking for a way to avoid amorous couples making goo-goo eyes at each other this weekend, BKLYNER’s compiled a list of 9 anti- or alternative Valentine’s Day events below. Mad, Dangerous Love
When: Friday, February 10th, 5 to 9pm
Where: Brooklyn Historical Society, 128 Pierrepont Street
What: A look at the complicated side of love, from vengeful poisons to lovesick raving…includes screenings of cartoon shorts, arts & crafts (design a cupid’s arrow), an exhibit of selected library items about “forbidden love,” and discussions titled, “Hysterically in Love: The Battle Between Medicine and Religion in a 19th Century Parisian Hysteria Ward,” and “Romance and Revenge: A History of Aphrodisiacs and Poisons.”

It’s Friday, I’m (Not) In Love
When: Friday, February 10th, 10pm
Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street (between 3rd and 4th Avenues)
What: the skint presents The Second Annual “It’s Friday, I’m (Not) In Love: Anti-Valentine’s Day Party” to celebrate singledom. DJ Gordon Gloom will play heartache hits from the 80s to today. There’ll be drink specials throughout the night and creative goth/black dress “will be rewarded.”
How Much: $6 to $10

Love Bites: The Power Ballads Sing-Along
When: Friday, February 10th, 9:30pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street (between 5th & 6th Avenues)
What: Sing-along to your heart’s content to classic power ballads by Bon Jovi, Journey, and all your favorite 80s hair bands.
How Much: $10

Dances of Vice Presents Venetian Valentine Commedia Masked Ball
When: Saturday, February 11th, 7pm to 1am
Where: Grand Prospect Hall, 263 Prospect Avenue (between 5th & 6th Avenues)
What: Professional party people, Dances of Vice, host this recreation of Carnival of Venice replete with live music and circus/opera/burlesque performances. Note: The dress code (black-tie/fantasy/Carnevale-themed attire) is strictly enforced.
How Much: $75 to $160

Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant Digester Egg Valentine’s Tour
When: Saturday, February 11th, tours at 11am, 1pm, 3pm
Where: Newtown Creek, 329 Greenpoint Avenue (at Humboldt Street)
What: This popular annual tour takes guests behind the scenes of Greenpoint’s wastewater treatment plant, offering skyline views from the glass-enclosed observation deck above the DEP’s state-of-the-art digester eggs.
How Much: Free

Area Yoga Valentine’s Vino-yasa
When: February 11th, 6 to 8:00pm
Where: 102 1st Place, 2nd Floor (at Court Street)
What: Down some vino after your downward dog. This special Valentine’s yoga class, focusing on self-love, will be accompanied by cheesy, romantic pop songs. Wine and dessert will be served after class.
How Much: $25 in advance, $30 day of

Your Love, Our Musical at Bell House
When: Sunday, February 12th, 8pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street (between 2nd & 3rd Avenues)
What: Hosts Evan Kaufman and Rebecca Vigil will interrogate an actual couple in the audience about how they met and then improvise a musical, accompanied by a full band, based on that couple’s love story.
How Much: $15

2 Events on Valentine’s Day
MoCADA Drink and Draw
When: Tuesday, February 14th, 8 to 10pm
Where: MoCADA, 80 Hanson Place (between South Elliott Place & South Portland Avenue)
What: Get creative this Valentine’s Day at the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts. MoCADA will provide art supplies, a model, and wine! Artist Ruby Onyinyechi Amanze will be on hand to instruct and offer advice.
How Much: $20 individual, $35 couples, free for members

Unlovable: A Smiths and Morrissey Valentine’s Day
When: Tuesday, February 14th, 8pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street (between 2nd & 3rd Avenues)
What: Acclaimed music journalist and author, Rob Sheffield, hosts this party celebrating the music of beloved Mancunian mope-ster Morrissey and The Smiths. Tribute band Sons & Heirs will perform.
How Much: $18 advance, $20 at door
