Bite Of The Day: Pernil & Plantains From Flatbush Latin Grill

For the abundance of different cultural foods we have around our area (Mexican, Filipino, West Indian, Italian, Israeli, Pakistani, Indian, Tibetan, French, Thai, and beyond), it seems like we don’t actually have a ton of Latin options in the area. Flatbush Latin Grill is one of the few exceptions, though–so we decided to order some warm, delicious Pernil (tender roasted pork shoulder) and sticky sweet plantains from them on this chilly day.

Delivery time was fast–much faster than some of the other, not as impressive meals we’ve had–and the driver who brought it was cheerful and courteous. Their free delivery minimum is $10, and orders can be placed via Seamless and GrubHub if that’s an important perk for you.

The grill’s Pernil ($6.50) is shredded and juicy, and is served with beans and a ton of rice. The rice and beans were scrumptious–although the portions could have been just a little more balanced–and the small order of sweet plantains ($2; our container held eight pieces) were cooked to perfection and met the meal’s salt nicely. Their homemade horchata ($2.50; not pictured) was also one of the freshest and best we’ve had.

Flatbush Latin Grill is located at 1902 Church Avenue (on the corner of E 19th Street) and is open 7am-10pm Monday through Friday and 8am-8pm Saturday and Sunday. You can stop in to order, or call them at 718-462-2022.
