Bite Of The Day: Easter Egg Bread From John’s

Easter Sunday is just around the corner, and John’s Bakery (1322 Cortelyou Road on the corner of Rugby Road) has all sorts of fun decorations up and yummy looking pastries in the window. Besides the standard cupcakes and chick-shaped cookies, the bakery offers a more unique option–hard-boiled dyed eggs wrapped in a little bun of a nest.

The bread ($2) has just a hint of sweetness, topped by little confetti sprinkles to match the pink or blue egg within. Pull hunks off with your fingers and enjoy how dense and filling it is, then peel the shell off its egg for a dose of protein in your pastry. Overall, it’s a delightful, textural treat–and it’s only around until Sunday, so you’d better get a move on!
