Beverley's Bright Green House Gets Muted

Have you noticed the bright green house on Beverley Road between Westminster and Argyle has been getting a new paint job? While it’s certainly a lovely shade of green, we’ll miss the electric hue of what’s become one of the more iconic, brightly-colored houses in the neighborhood (in fact, it used to even be the main header image on our old Ditmas Park Blog, remember?).

According to the Prospect Park South historic district designation report, 1205 Beverley was designed in 1899 by architect Henry A. Stunek, built for developer George T. Moore, who commissioned several houses in the area. Though the report goes into the building’s interesting details — the projecting conical roof, the Doric columns, the bays and oriels — it doesn’t note what color it was at that time in 1979. Anyone remember it being anything but that bright green? Perhaps this new shade is more in line with the original?
