It took two-and-a-half years, but Valentin Torres, 25, of Bay Ridge, has now been convicted on charges of murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon — all in the second degree — in the shooting death of 35-year-old Sunset Parker Johnny Rosado. Another victim was also injured, although only in the leg.

The conviction means Torres faces up to 32 years to life in prison when sentenced on May 6.

Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson explained the decision, stating that “This defendant shot and killed a man after an altercation had ended. He will now pay dearly for committing such deadly violence.”

The incident began at around 1am on August 25, 2013 when Torres approached Rosado as he sat on the stoop of 744 39th Street, resulting in a verbal and physical fight over a negative comment that Torres accused Rosado of making to a woman.

When Torres pulled out a revolver, the fighting ended, but according to witnesses, he still fired the gun “multiple times, striking Rosado three times and also hitting another man in the leg. The defendant was arrested in New Jersey about two weeks later.”
