Baseball Travel Team Tryouts This Weekend
The current weather may be more conducive to ice skating than baseball, but travel team tryouts are happening now.
The three main travel baseball teams in this section of Brooklyn are the SFX Huskies, the Brooklyn Bonnies, and the 78th Precinct Bulldogs. SFX and 78th Precinct also have house teams (registration is open now). Ball players must be four by April 30 to play.
Has the tryout for your ballplayer’s age group has passed? Each league has a contact email address. Depending, the leagues may be flexible and let your slugger tryout at a team practice.
SFX Huskies
Ball players between the ages of seven and 14 can try out for The Huskies, who are holding tryouts this weekend, January 11 and 12. For information on when and where your future major leaguer can try out, visit SFX Huskies website, or email the commissioner Steve Reiser. Steve is friendly and always on the lookout for players.
Brooklyn Bonnies
The Bonnie Youth Club is a year-round program open to ballplayers ages five to 21. The Bonnies have the most extensive tryout and practice schedule of these three leagues. Winter tryouts/practices begin at indoor gyms the weekend of January 17-19, and continue inside for eight weekends before moving outside. The exact schedule — with age group, coach, place and time information — will be posted on The Bonnies’ website soon. A player can tryout any time during this period, but The Bonnies recommend serious ball players try out early, during an indoor practice. For more information, contact The Bonnies.
78th Precinct Bulldogs
The Bulldogs tryouts and callbacks are well underway. From the Bulldogs website, it seems their teams are almost put together — but if your ballplayer has dreams of becoming a Bulldog, join the 78th Precinct house team, as the Bulldogs recruit from within their own ranks. For more information, contact The Bulldogs.
The baseball season will officially kick off the first weekend in April with a march down 7th Ave in Park Slope and a celebration at the Bandshell in Prospect Park. We wish a successful season to all our neighborhood ball players!
