Barbès Is Losing Their Piano! Find Out How You Can Help

Our neighbors over at Barbès (376 9th Street, at 6th Avenue) need a little help, South Slope. The music venue, known across the city for their impressive global selections, is about to lose something vital to the bar’s livelihood: their acoustic piano.

A few years back, a very reputable German company contacted us and offered to give us a brand new piano. No strings attached (and no pun intended). This was a great opportunity as it enabled us to start booking more piano-centric music – including our Upright Piano Brigade series which showcased some great new talent in the classical world. We were thrilled to take it and gave our old piano to a school in Pennsylvania.
Well, it seems that the afore-not-mentioned company has changed its mind. They have decided to withdraw all of their pianos from North America – including ours. Within a few weeks, we will no longer have a piano.

The owners of Barbès have found a new piano, but coupled with the bar’s existing debt, the $4,000 it would cost to purchase, move and fine tune the instrument is too much.

This is where you come in. Barbès has created an indiegogo site to help raise money for the new piano. With 13 days left in the campaign, the group is at $2,255 of their $3,900 goal. Making a donation is easy. Just visit indiegogo or the Barbès website, and let’s help one of our favorite venues keep the music alive.
