Bank News: Santander Sign Replaces Sovereign, 7-Eleven Will Have Citibank ATM

The name is not officially set to change until October 17, but the Sovereign bank on Newkirk Plaza just got its new Santander sign last week. It’s just the name that’s changing, though they do hope to expand in the U.S. — perhaps just to Cortelyou might be helpful to some. Though there are some cheap ATM options, Cortelyou remains one of the only main strips in our neighborhood without a bank.

Another area without much access to banks is Coney Island Avenue at Beverley Road, where a new 7-Eleven is getting closer to opening (no word on when, but we’ll keep an eye on it). Signage went up last week, and fixtures are starting to fill the store, but the one thing we noticed that might be helpful to some neighbors is that it will have a Citibank ATM inside. Handy for those customers who aren’t near the closest branch on Flatbush at Church.
