An A train derailment triggered power outages across the subway system this morning, causing injuries to 34 passengers and chaos for straphangers stuck underground, according to news reports.

After the emergency break was triggered, cars on a Brooklyn-bound A train dislodged from the tracks and hit a wall near the 125th St. station around 9:45am, said MTA officials.

At the time of the derailment, passengers reported their train car filling with smoke, and some panicked straphangers forced their way out of the cars onto the tracks, reported the NY Daily News.

FDNY officials later said that some trash on the tracks caught fire after the derailment, leading to the smoke condition, reported ABC7.

All disabled trains were evacuated by noon, said MTA officials — about two hours after initial reports hit social media.
