Attention Vino Lovers! Wine Expert To Lead Tasting In Kensington Tonight — RSVP Now

Get ready, vino lovers of Kensington: tonight, you’ll have a chance to check out a new citywide wine tasting series that is launching right here in our neighborhood!

Barney Lehrer, who lives in Kensington, is starting the series at 7pm tonight, Thursday, August 6. You’ll need to RSVP to receive the address of where you should go — it’s being held at Barney’s house. To register, go here.

Robin Kelley O’Connor, one of New York’s foremost wine experts and educators, will lead the tasting, which has a theme of “Summer Wines from the Mediterranean.” There will be more than 10 wines — all of which will be provided by Juice Box — that will sampled, the names of which you can see here.

Before tonight’s wine extravaganza, we wanted to catch up with Barney to find out more about the event:

Who is starting these tastings, and what made the group decide to launch all of this deliciousness in Kensington?

I started it through my Meetup group. I wanted to start where I live and then gradually bring it to other neighborhoods throughout the city.

What inspired you to begin the neighborhood wine tastings series in the first place?

It came about because I am part of a team that is developing a new app that a wine lover can use to find out where to buy a wine they are enjoying at a party or in a restaurant. The concept is to work with local wine shops throughout the city as our partners. This is a way to test the idea. But I also want to bring good wine to Kensington!

Summer wines from the Mediterranean – just the phrase is making us drool! Do you yourself have a favorite?

A true wine lover has no favorites. It’s like saying you have a favorite child!

Will this be held again in Kensington, or will it move around to different neighborhoods? Either way, how can people find out when the next gathering will be?

I may want to do it in Kensington again at some point. But the concept is to move it around. They can follow our events at the Meetup site.

If there was a wine that best embodies Kensington, what do you think it would be – and why?
From this list I would say the Domaine Le Couroulu Vacqueyras. It’s tough; it’s solid; it’s wild!
