Attendee At Wilco Show Loses Wallet But Gains Memento

A concertgoer at the recent Wilco show at Flatbush Avenue’s Kings Theatre received a very surprising letter after losing his wallet there.

Reilly Flaherty, 28, who returned to the Kings Theatre the same night after discovering his wallet was missing on Saturday, February 6th, never found it, but he did receive an envelope in the mail with no return address almost two weeks later.

The letter reads:

“Dear Reilly Flaherty,
I found your wallet and your drivers license had your address so here’s your credit cards and other important stuff. I kept the cash because I needed weed, the metrocard because well the fare’s $2.75 now, and the wallet cause it’s kinda cool. Enjoy the rest of your day.
Toodles,
Anonymous”

After first thinking that the person who sent the letter was a good samaritan, Flaherty told the New York Post that he realized he had been ripped off — well, at least partially.

And part of what made the situation frustrating for Flaherty was that he could somewhat relate to the individual who held on to his cash, metrocard and wallet.

“I would say, ‘Man, we would’ve gotten along — we’re both into Wilco — but you turned out to be super selfish,’ ” Flaherty said. “It speaks to the New York mentality: I’m going to be nice but there’s going to be an asterisk.”

Flaherty would not tell the Post how much cash was taken.

“Whether it was a dollar or a thousand, [this person]  is a pot-smoking, modern-day version of Robin Hood,” he said.
