Attend A 70th Precinct Community Council Meeting Tomorrow Night At 7:30

This Wednesday, November 19, neighbors are invited to attend the 70th Precinct Community Council meeting – when you’ll be able to speak directly with police officers and legislators about concerns regarding crime in the area.

The meeting will be held at 7:30pm at 175 Lawrence Avenue.

With a number of recent crimes that have happened around our area, including a string of armed robberies at Lark Café, Ox Cart Tavern, and the Stratford Deli on Church Avenue, neighbors said they expect a large turnout at the monthly meeting. The crimes have garnered much concern throughout our area, prompting residents to hold a meeting with Deputy Inspector Richard DiBlasio, commanding officer of the 70th Precinct, last week.

During the meeting, police said they have increased patrols around the neighborhood, and plan to further increase their presence during the holiday season. Councilman Mathieu Eugene also said at the meeting that he would look into funding for NYPD cameras in the area.

A number of business owners have said they are hoping for more security in the area, and Mimi’s Hummus owner Avi Shuker told us this week he’d ideally like to see 24-hour foot patrols around Cortelyou, as well as more NYPD cameras.

Are you planning on going to the meeting? What are you hoping to speak to police or other community leaders about?
