Armed Robbery At Lark Café Last Night

A writers group meeting at Lark Café (1007 Church Avenue) was robbed at gunpoint around 8:50pm Thursday night, when neighbors told us a man walked in with a gun and stole laptops from the nine-person group. We confirmed the robbery with Lark this morning, and we are relieved to hear that no one was physically injured.

Kari Browne, the owner at Lark, said in a Facebook post this morning:

Our business community has been experiencing a recent wave of robberies in the last few weeks. Unfortunately, it was our turn last night. It is a terrible feeling of being so vulnerable and experiencing such a violation of trust, of respect and of humanity. As a business, open to the public, it is our pleasure to serve and welcome. It’s a terrible thing when an act violates our community, our business and our neighbors. Our hearts are heavy for those whose worlds were shaken last night, and for those who now carry a bit more suspicion, a bit more anxiety, a bit more fear. We thank you for your continued support and are grateful for the wonderful community we serve on a daily basis. May you all be safe, be well and be strong in the face of fear.

Last night’s incident follows several other armed robberies at businesses in our neighborhood, including  Ox Cart Tavern, Mimi’s Hummus and a Church Avenue deli – crimes which prompted concerned neighbors to meet with police this week.

We have reached out to the 70th Precinct to find out more about last night, and we’ll update this as soon as we find out more information.
