Are You Doing All You Can To Protect Your Heart? (Sponsored)
Now in its second year, the Women’s Heart to Heart program at Maimonides Medical Center continues to raise awareness about heart disease among women and the importance of taking a proactive approach to good heart health. This free event will take place at Brooklyn’s Montauk Club on Wednesday, April 23 at 6:30pm, and will include free cardiac health screenings including BMI, blood pressure, and carotid screening. Dinner will be served. RSVP here or call 718-283-8832.
Who should attend the event?
Heart disease is the #1 killer of American women, taking more lives than the next seven causes of death combined. All women over the age of 18 are encouraged to attend, particularly those at risk of developing heart disease based on family history. Free heart screenings will be conducted on-site at the event. Assessments of risk level will be made based upon not only family history, but lifestyle, eating habits, BMI, and more.
Why is it important for women to know the signs and symptoms of heart disease?
Heart disease affects women very differently than men, and many do not know how to properly identify the symptoms of a heart attack and other cardiovascular diseases. Women of all ages are at risk of developing heart disease.
Why should one not delay being proactive in their cardiac health from an early age?
Cardiovascular disease is estimated to claim the life of 1 in 3 women. Taking a proactive approach means being educated about the risks, and actively taking care of yourself before, during, and after menopause. Diet, exercise, and stress management from an early age can help prevent or delay onset of many heart conditions.
Who will be giving the lecture?
Sharonne Hayes, MD, Founder of the Women’s Heart Clinic at Mayo
Gregory Crooke, MD, Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Maimonides Medical Center
