Do you or your civic group, school, or nonprofit have an idea for a project to foster healthy eating, open space, active living, or fitness in the Fort Greene-Clinton Hill community? Then apply — NOW! — for a grant to make it a reality!

The Brooklyn Community Foundation (BCF) and the Myrtle Avenue Revitalization Project (MARP) are trying to get out the word about $10,000 in grants that are available for projects in Fort Greene, Red Hook, and Brownsville, through the Community Grant Program of the Healthy Communities Initiative.

Past projects funded have included community gardens, farmers markets, sports programs, and more. This year, one of the groups applying for funding is the team of seniors behind the Ingersoll Community Garden.

See if your idea might be eligible:

  • Health fairs organized within 3 target neighborhoods, Fort Greene/Clinton Hill, Brownsville and Red Hook but based in FG/CH.
  • Community outreach and education activities that get people involved with healthy eating and/or active living programs or activities in the three target neighborhoods
  • Community gardens located within the three target neighborhoods
  • Farmers markets operating within the three target neighborhoods
  • Projects that complement existing work funded by the Healthy Communities Initiative or work the partners are already doing in this area are preferred but not required.
  • Staffing to support community and/or education events.

Applications should be submitted by 4pm on Tuesday, July 21, but an extension can be requested by emailing Shaquana Boykin at Shaquana@myrtleavenue.org.

Grants can range from $2,000 to $10,000 each and all funds must be spend by the end of the year on December 31, 2015.
