An Update On For-Profit Clothing Donation Bins
We only posted about all those new illegal clothing donation bins in the neighborhood not even two weeks ago, but it looks like neighbors have been taking some swift action to get rid of them!
Instagram user _titivil snapped some Sanitation stickers on this Viltex bin over the weekend, and we noticed the bin that had recently been placed against Mr. Wash Laundromat on E 16th between Cortelyou and Dorchester is no longer.
Aside from not always being adequately labeled to let neighbors know their clothes are going to a for-profit enterprise, and aside from a tendency to become trash heaps, these bins can actually prove to be a safety concern. Just last Monday, one 14th Street in South Slope experienced its second fire in less than a year.
Brooklyn seems like a good place to complain–DNAInfo says we’re the borough where the most bins have been hauled away, racking up 33 removals in the past nine months–so keep making a stink! If you see an illegal bin on your street, submit a form requesting its removal–and if it’s a Viltex USA bin, get in touch with company dispatcher Mary at 862-279-5292 or maryviltexusa@gmail.com.
