An Apple For A Quarter At Thursday’s P.S. 295 Market

It’s been said that an apple a day keeps the doctor away, and with this deal from the P.S. 295 Farmers Market (which is running an hour earlier than normal this week, from 1:30pm to 3:30pm), you’ll be set until at least 2014.

Look for apples at only .25 each, freshly squeezed apple juice at $1 a cup, and Lancaster Farms cider by the jug.

If all this talk of apples has left you with a sudden urge to bake, we highly recommend trying Grandma Ople’s apple pie recipe. We stumbled across the recipe several years ago, and it never fails to impress.

Don’t stop at the apples, though! Here’s a full breakdown of this week’s goodies:

Apples
Kale
Tatsoi
Mustard greens
Lettuce
Escarole
Cauliflower
Broccoli
Radishes
Brussels sprouts
Beets
Carrots
Watermelon radishes
Fennel
Apple cider
Honey
Milk
Maple syrup
Top round steak
Chicken breasts
Chicken wings
Dried apples

That’s not all! Look for these straight-from-the-school’s-garden options:

Beets, beets, and more beets!

The P.S. 295 Farmers Market (19th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues) runs every Thursday from 2:30-4:30pm. If you’re a parent at the school and you’d like to get involved, or if you have any questions, stop by the market or contact market@ps295.org for more information. And be sure to follow them on Facebook for weekly updates!
