The East New York man charged in the grisly death of a Coney Island mom eluded police for nine months, until yesterday, when he was stopped by officers for hogging an extra seat on the subway, new reports have revealed.

Gregory White, 43, was charged with second degree murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon for stabbing mother-of-four Victoria Hammond to death in January, cops said.

Police encountered White lounging across two spots on the A train at approximately 2:30am Thursday morning, reports the New York Daily News. The officers were about to write the alleged killer a summons when they realized he was wanted for questioning in Hammond’s murder.

A dramatic scene unfolded between the victim’s sons and the alleged killer at the arraignment Thursday. The Daily News has the details:

White claimed Hammond came at him with the knife first during an argument, a police source said. He said he grabbed the weapon as he tried to defend himself and ended up stabbing the woman, whom he had been seeing for about a month, he said.
Outraged relatives exploded at White’s arraignment, threatening the defendant and shouting insults before the judge cleared the courtroom. White was held without bail.
“Wherever you go, we’re going to get you,” shouted Jah Hammond, 44, the victim’s son.

Police told the outlet that White confessed to the crime during questioning.
