Airbags Ripped Out Of 5 Hondas On South Slope Street In A Single Evening
Five car owners awoke Tuesday morning to punched out door locks and steering wheels which had been torn open for their airbags. According to NBC 4 New York, all five of the incidents took place in the same area.
NBC 4 New York reporter Marc Santia told us that the break-ins took place between 7th and 10th Avenues along 18th Street. A police spokesperson from the 72nd Precinct confirmed that there are currently three reports in the system.

The five cars broken into were all Hondas, although they did not have the type of airbags which were recently recalled.
Police said that — previous to these incidents — there is record of only one stolen airbag in this area during 2016. And while the investigation is ongoing, cops say this recent crime spree most likely is a case of “supply and demand” for the Honda airbags.
Kristen Schwarz was one of the car owners frustrated with the damage as well as other personal items stolen from her car. And she has a message for the thieves: “Get a job. You really need to get a job,” Schwarz told NBC 4 New York. “I work hard. So does everybody else around here. Please don’t do this.”
