An Afternoon At Sunset Park’s Frying Pan Wheelhouse

Sunset Park – Ever since it debuted in May, I’ve been meaning to check out the Frying Pan Wheelhouse at Industry City, the Brooklyn satellite of the Frying Pan, the popular Chelsea restaurant/bar/party boat.

I finally got around to visiting the fun spot on a sunny afternoon a couple of weekends ago. I’m glad I did! Situated between Industry City buildings 5 and 6, in a welcoming, spacious, green courtyard, Wheelhouse is great place to bring the family or gather with a group of friends.

There’s a cute, Brooklyn-themed, nine-hole mini golf course ($10 per person for unlimited putting); a nine-table, indoor ping pong hall ($5 per person for 30 minutes); and a large astroturf lawn for lounging and lazing around or watching outdoor movie screenings hosted by Rooftop Films.

Wheelhouse features a counter serving up three types of lobster rolls, a crab roll, poke tacos, hot dogs, and Bahn mi, along with beer, wine, and cocktails. The servings are on the small side, but the seafood is fresh and delicious.

There are assorted colorful high-top tables and stools for diners to sit at with bright umbrellas providing shade.

An additional bar is located near the entrance by Second Avenue, adjacent to the ping pong arena. The Wheelhouse Bar is housed in the wheelhouse of a repurposed tugboat that worked in New York Harbor from 1968 to 1982.

Check out this fun, seasonal venue before the summer ends!
