Afternoon Burrito Bite At Fatty Daddy

We love a tasty taco here at South Slope News, but sometimes it’s a good idea to shake things up a bit.

Upon the realization that tacos were the only thing we’ve tried at 9th Street’s Fatty Daddy Taco (between 4th and 5th Avenues), we decided to give the chicken burrito a whirl.

The burrito ($9) comes with chicken, black beans, rice, cheese, lettuce, and salsa fresco. After that, though, you have several decisions to make before walking away with your food. Do you want to go with a flour tortilla wrapped burrito, a whole wheat tortilla, or ditch the tortilla completely and enjoy a burrito bowl? You can also double the meat for an additional $2, or add guacamole for $1. We did both, bringing our total to $12.

The first thing you’ll notice is the size of this monster. It’s HUGE. Unless you’re seriously hungry, plan on sharing with a buddy or saving the rest for later, because polishing off the entire burrito in one sitting can easily bring you into food coma territory.

Because of its size, the burrito was pretty messy, and we finally ended up just using our fork to eat. Next time around, we may just go for the burrito bowl (shown above).

The grilled chicken had a nice kick to it, and like Fatty Daddy’s tacos, everything tasted very fresh, but the rice was definitely a disappointment. Our Tex-Mex upbringing had us longing for a flavorful Mexican rice, and the plain white just fell flat.

Overall, though, the chicken burrito at Fatty Daddy is a solid and satisfying choice. If you’re craving Mexican food, we’d certainly recommend giving it a try.
