Afternoon Bite: Lunch Special At Mariella

Walking along 6th Avenue on Monday, we spotted a $10.95 lunch special at Mariella (492 6th Ave, between 12th and 13th) that was too good to pass up. The weather was still appropriately spring-like (curse you and your blasted snow, Mother Nature), so we snagged a spot on the patio and got ready to eat.

First up was a complementary basket of soft and tasty bread, with the ever-important side of olive oil. The rosemary in the bread was deliciously fresh and fragrant, and we’ve honestly been craving more since we left.

The special included a generous mixed salad,

and your choice of an entree. My colleague, Mary, went with the frittata, which she described as “crispy around the edge, packed with sausage, goat cheese, and vegetables, and definitely filling for lunch.”

As one who can never walk away from a good pasta dish, your trusty editor decided on the fettucini with bolognese. The hearty meat sauce (sprinkled with parmesan) was comforting and filling, without leaving us desperate for a nap. Perfect for a cozy lunch.

If you happen to have time for a more relaxed neighborhood lunch, definitely keep the folks at Mariella in mind.

Mariella is open Mondays through Thursdays, 12pm to 10pm, Fridays, 12pm to 11pm, Saturdays, 11am to 11pm, and 10:30am to 10pm. Credit cards and reservations are accepted. For more information, call the restaurant at 718-499-2132.
