Activists Install Legit-Looking Speed Limit Signs Along Prospect Park West
On Saturday night, activists from the group Right Of Way installed several signs along Prospect Park West that looked kind of like legitimate speed limit signs stating that “20 is plenty,” including one at the intersection where Sammy Cohen-Eckstein was struck and killed by a van last month.
“A pedestrian hit by a car going 20 mph has a 95% chance of survival,” organizer Keegan Stephan told WNYC.
When we walked down PPW this afternoon, it looked like all the signs had already been removed. Has anyone seen if any are still up?
The City Council is currently considering a bill to lower the speed limit in the city, though it sounds like they’re changing it from the original 2o miles per hour to 25 mph on “narrow, one-way streets,” according to what the Council’s Transportation Committee chair Jimmy Vacca told WNYC.
