A Dog Owner’s Guide To Prospect Park This Weekend
Dog owners of Ditmas, wondering where you can take your furry friend in Prospect Park during this event-filled weekend? Neighbor Francesca is here to help! She writes:
Saturday’s Brooklyn Half-Marathon will be looping around the outside Drives in the park. This means getting in and out during off-leash hours will be nearly impossible. As it is a public park, you have a right to cross the marathon (I’ve had to do so when I was trapped inside the park during a marathon I didn’t know about ahead of time), but I can tell you from experience it really makes the runners angry and is potentially dangerous.
As for Sunday, GoogaMooga will be in full swing. After studying the map, it looks like the Nethermead will be the only area dogs will not be able to enter. However, it seems dogs and their owners should be able to access the Peninsula and the Long Meadow, the other two off-leash areas. Note, however, that the denied access to the Nethermead takes away the shortcut Ditmas Park residents would normally use to get to the Long Meadow. Also note that as I have nothing to do with GoogaMooga, I can’t guarantee said access to the Peninsula, but people should look at the map and judge for themselves.
Human or canine–whichever pals you’re hanging with this weekend–have an awesome time!
