9 Things To Do In Park Slope This Weekend

The weekend is in full swing, and there’s still plenty to do! Here’s what you have to look forward to.

Gowanus Bird Walk
When: Saturday, September 28, 10am-12pm
Where: Meet at Gowanus Studio Space, 166 7th Street (between 2nd & 3rd Aves)
What: See songbirds as they follow the Atlantic migratory flyway southward to their tropical wintering grounds on this tour guided by urban naturalist and NYC bird expert Gabriel Willow. $5 suggested donation.

Friends of Park Slope Library Book Sale
When: Saturday, September 28, 11am-4pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 6th Avenue between 8th and 9th Streets
What: Kids books, cookbooks, fiction, nonfiction, CDs, DVDs, and more, all priced between 50 cents and $5, and all proceeds going to the library.

Park Slope Bluegrass & Old-Time Jamboree
When: Saturday, September 28, 12:30-10:30pm
Where: Brooklyn Society For Ethical Culture, 53 Prospect Park West
What: A full day of activities, with workshops in banjo, fiddle, harmony singing, and more, plus all-day jamming and an evening concert, $5.

Roller Skating At The Lyceum
When: Saturday, September 28 & Sunday September 29, 2-6pm
Where: Brooklyn Lyceum, 227 4th Avenue
What: Grab your skates (you need to bring your own), put on your best ’70s getup, and spend your afternoon rolling around to disco music, $5.

History In Your Hands: Playing With Food
When: Saturday, September 28 & Sunday, September 29, 2 & 3pm both days
Where: Lefferts Historic House, Prospect Park
What: It’s the final weekend of this program where kids can help churn butter, grind corn, peel apples, and learn how to make corn husk dolls and other fun crafts. $3 suggested donation.

Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival
When: Saturday, September 28 & Sunday, September 29
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street & Union Hall, 702 Union Street

Fairy Tale Comics with Charise Mericle Harper, Brett Helquist, & Raina Telgemeier
When: Sunday, September 29, 11am
Where: Community Bookstore, 143 7th Avenue
What: Kids ages four and up can meet three of the talented cartoonist contributors to the new comic anthology Fairy Tale Comics: Classic Tales Told by Extraordinary Cartoonists. Free!

The Atlantic Antic
When: Sunday, September 29, 12-6pm
Where: Atlantic Avenue from 4th Avenue to Hicks Street
What: The biggest street fair in New York City feautres live music, stuff for the kids, and more than 500 booths to check out for shopping and eating. Free!

Ready, Set, Kindergarten!
When: Sunday, September 29 (and every following Sunday through Nov 10), 2:30pm
Where: Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: The library’s six-session series of family fun has stories and activities designed to encourage the development of early learning skills for kids ages 3-5. Free!
