88th Precinct Crime Statistics: Week Of November 2-8, Plus New Officers Coming To Patrol Ingersoll And Whitman
This past week’s crime report shows a slight increase in overall crime compared to last week (19 incidents versus this week’s 21), but an improvement compared to last year (21 versus 23). There were, however, no murders or shootings this week, which was a welcome reprieve from the gun violence of recent weeks and months.
To that end, officers from the PSA3 housing police will patrol Ingersoll, Whitman and Farragut Houses “at various hours in order to conform to the needs of the community,” said PSA 3 Captain Charles Minch. “Also, depending on our resources deployment personnel may vary from time to time.”
The above is an update to our previous report that 11 new cops would be assigned to the area in three shifts. Minch states that those details, reported by tenants as having been announced at a November NYCHA Next Gen meeting, are incorrect.
Ingersoll Tenants Association President Anthony Sosa had told us that the additional officers were in part due to resident concerns about officer force during a mid-October incident in which a woman was allegedly assaulted by officers for trying to give her arrested boyfriend the receipt that he had paid tickets for which he was being arrested for not paying.
The next 88th Precinct Community Council meeting will be Tuesday, November 17 at 7pm, location TBD.
The next meeting of the Public Service Area 3 (housing police) is Wednesday, December 2, at 585 DeKalb Avenue.
CompStat reports are produced by the New York Police Department on a weekly basis. We publish the week’s statistics for the 88th Precinct reports every week. The 88th Precinct is the police command that oversees Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.
