Last week’s continued downward trend slowed a bit this past week (June 15 to 21), with a few crime categories seeing increases:

  • grand larcenies (from 3 to 6)
  • auto thefts (from 0 to 6)
  • transit (0 to 1)
  • housing (0 to 3)
  • misdemeanor sex crimes (from 0 to 1)

The downward trajectory continued, however, in a few areas:

  • robberies (from 4 to 2)
  • petit larceny (from 17 to 15)
  • misdemeanor assault (from 5 to 4)

Staying the same were felony assaults (two incidents) and burglaries (one incident).

According to 88th Precinct Commanding Officer, Captain Peter Fiorillo, June’s burglaries have been mostly taking place overnight between Sunday/Monday and Monday/Tuesday, although he’s unsure why.

He also noted that a spate of bicycle thefts have impacted auto theft rates. Cars have also been targets, but less so ever since “six known car thieves” were arrested.

People should also follow common sense and avoid leaving property unattended.

The next 88th Precinct Community Council meeting will be in SEPTEMBER.

CompStat reports are produced by the New York Police Department on a weekly basis. We publish the week’s statistics for the 88th Precinct reports every week. The 88th Precinct is the police command that oversees Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.
