88th Precinct Rookie Officer Gets Broken Jaw Trying To Break Up A Fight In Manhattan

A rookie officer from the 88th Precinct as badly beaten and left with a broken jaw and multiple bruises after he reportedly tried to break up a fight at a bar in Manhattanthis past Sunday, January 3, at around 1:40am.

Officer Timothy Keane, 24, was off-duty at the time of the fight at a bar called the Brass Monkey, reports the New York Post. A “loud argument outside” on Little West 12th Street caught his attention and he went out to investigate, identifying himself as a cop — at which point some of the men “jumped him.”

He was taken to the hospital for treatment and police arrested five men, all friends from Long Island — at the scene, although so far only two of them face charges of third-degree assault.

Get well soon, Officer Keane!
