7 Things For Kids To Do This Weekend

With so many cool events scheduled this weekend for both kids and adults, we had to break it up into two posts. Stay tuned for things for grown-ups, but for now, here are some great ways to enjoy the weekend with your family:

Pumpkin Boo-nanza
When: Saturday, October 19, 10am-4pm
Where: Old First Nursery School, Carroll Street and 7th Avenue
What: Pick up a pumpkin for your stoop and eat some baked goods while your little ones decorates that pumpkin, all while supporting the oldest cooperative pre-school in New York City.
How much: Free, plus the cost of pumpkins and treats

Fall Civic Sweep
When: Saturday, October 19, 10am-2pm
Where: Meet at JJ Byrne Playground, 5th Avenue between 3rd & 4th Sts
What: A great opportunity to get your kids invested in their community, the annual clean-up will have volunteers hitting local blocks to weed and mulch street trees, pick up litter on sidewalks, paint over graffiti on lampposts, and more.
How much: Free!

PS 133 Fall Festival
When: Saturday, October 19, 12-5pm
Where: PS 133, 610 Baltic Street
What: Rides, games, pumpkin decorating, face painting, manicures, a bouncy house, and more.
How much: Free!

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
When: Saturday & Sunday, October 19 & 20, 12pm & 1:30pm
Where: Brooklyn Lyceum, 227 4th Avenue
What: Dress in costume for this  interactive reading of the classic, with projections, actors, sound effects, and a deliciously malevolent set will accompany the reading, plus with festive food and drink.
How much: Tickets are $15 for one, $50 for 4 (for ages 7-10)

Annabelle Broom, The Unhappy Witch
When: Saturday, October 19, 1pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: This interactive musical tells the story of Annabelle Broom, who clashes with her tough witch superiors when she decides to help — instead of frighten — two lost children. Suitable for younger children.
How much: Free!

Comic Workshop with Nathan Hale
When: Sunday, October 20, 11am
Where: Bergen Street Comics, 470 Bergen Street
What: Nathan Hale is celebrating the release of the third book in the Hazardous Tales series, Donner Dinner Party, with an autograph session and comics workshop. He’ll show all the budding cartoonists who stop by how he creates his comics. And there’ll be juice and cookies too!
How much: Free!

Children’s Fall Festival
When: Sunday, October 20, 2-4pm
What: Kids can come in costume and enjoy a puppet show, face painting, pumpkin decorating and giveaways, a rock climbing wall, singalongs, games, raffles, and more.
How much: Free!
