60 Firefighters Snuff Out Apartment Fire On 13th Street
Firefighters rushed to 13th Street on Sunday to extinguish an apartment fire on a day with dry conditions conducive to spreading flames.
12 units were sent to 404 13th Street (between 7th and 8th Avenues), according to the FDNY. The building is a two-story dwelling which houses multiple families.
The FDNY received the call at approximately 1:20pm. Officials say the blaze was extinguished at approximately 1:55pm, after 60 firefighters were sent to the scene.
The fire was located on the roof and extinguished without significant damage to the building.
One firefighter sustained injuries during the fire and was transported to nearby Methodist Hospital. According to the FDNY, the injuries were minor.
According to the FDNY, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. However, some witnesses claim it was started by a BBQ grill on the rooftop.
