Chinese New Year Celebration

What: Welcome the Year of the Horse! Celebrations of man and nature performed by musicians of Music From China playing the erhu, pipa, zheng, and ruan ring out the energy and festive spirit of the Lunar New Year.

Music From China Performs Xiang Yue: Songs Of Folk Life
When: Saturday, February 1, 4pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Ancient and modern, East and West converge in music performed on Chinese and Western instruments for this celebration of the Lunar New Year.
How much: Free!

Party Like It’s 1999: An Ace February Edition
When: Saturday, February 1, 10pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: Celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of the seminal film Ace Ventura: Pet Detective by dancing to a mix of pop, rock, hip-hop, and R&B from the 1990s.
How much: Free!

Jumpin’ Juniper Festival: Alex And The Kaleidoscope Band
When: Sunday, February 2, 11am
Where: BAX, 421 5th Avenue
What: An hour-long performance by this fun kids music group starts at 11am, and the play room is available in conjunction with the performance — so if your children need to take a break, you can bring them there to play, and return to the show whenever. After the performance, you can keep enjoying the playspace until 1pm.
How much: $8, available in advance or starting at 10:30am at the box office

Cutting Along The Color Line: Black Barbers And Barber Shops In America
When: Sunday, February 2, 1pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Learn about the social and political role of black-owned barber shops in history from Quincy T. Mills, who will be discussing his new book on the topic.
