6 Things To Do In Park Slope This Weekend

Modo Trunk Show Party
When: Saturday, July 13, 12-6pm
Where: Park Slope Eye, 682 Union Street
What: Spec-wearers: Dr. Bazan and his team are hosting a Modo Eyewear Trunk Show, where the Modo crew will be on hand with the entire collections from several glasses designers. Plus, 30% of all Modo brands when a complete pair is purchased, Bogota Latin Bistro will be served, and one free set of frames will be raffled off.

Music & Movies: Dracula with the Philip Glass Ensemble/Kishi Bashi
When: Saturday, July 13, Gates 6:30pm/Show 7:30pm
Where: Prospect Park Bandshell
What: The 1931 Bela Lugosi classic Dracula will be screened not only outdoors, but to the score of a live ensemble led by Philip Glass. The last time Celebrate Brooklyn tried to do this, thunder scared everyone away. If the rain holds off this time, will you be brave enough to stay for the whole spooky movie?

’90s One-Hit-Wonder Singalong
When: Saturday, July 13, 10pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: Join the singalong crowd for two hours of the best ’90s one-hit-wonder music videos with all the lyrics on the big screen– no microphones and no waiting for your turn to sing. Wear neon or flannel for the ’90s costume contest, show off your moves in the dance-off, and enjoy prizes including free drinks and tickets to upcoming Bell House and Union Hall shows.

Park Slope Historic Walking Tour
When: Sunday, July 14, 2-4pm
Where: Meet under the Soldier & Sailors Arch at Grand Army Plaza
What: Native New Yorker and urban historian Daniel London has some secrets to share about Park Slope. Walk the streets as you discuss the dramatic stories behind the area’s early development: from the iconography of Grand Army Plaza and Prospect Park, to the controversial history of the brownstone, and more.
How much: Registration is $30 (signup here) and space this time around is limited to 12. Over 40 people showed up at Daniel’s last tour, so snag a spot soon!

Learn To Draw G-Man
When: Sunday, July 14, 11am
Where: Bergen Street Comics, 470 Bergen Street
What: It’s a morning of fun as Chris Giarrusso shows kids and parents how he brings G-Man to life, and shares tips on how to create super-heroes of your very own.
How much: Free!

Ready, Set, Kindergarten!
When: Sunday, July 14 (and every following Sunday through August 11), 2:30pm
Where: Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: It’s the second week of the library’s six-week series for kids ages 3 to 5 years old. The family story time event includes books, songs, rhymes, great learning tips, and craft activities, as a way for the whole family to get geared up for school. Families will receive free materials to continue the fun and learning at home.
