6 Things To Do In Park Slope This Weekend

The weekend is in full swing, and there’s still plenty to do! Grab a bite at the Food Truck Rally at the Barclays Center, catch a free concert in Prospect Park, take the kids to learn to fish, catch Charlie Brown on stage, and yes, even play a few rounds of bingo.

FOR THE GROWN-UPS

Food Truck Rally
When: Saturday July 6, 11 am – 5 pm
Where: Daily News Plaza at Barclays Center
What: In the second of three summer Saturday food truck events, an all-Brooklyn lineup of food trucks will fill the Daily News Plaza– including Momos & Buns, Andy’s Italian Ices, Phil’s Steaks, Gorilla Cheese NYC, Kimchi Taco Truck, and Coolhaus Ice Cream Sandwiches. Visitors will be able to enjoy their food at bistro-style tables, while Underground Horns play their unique blend of jazz, hip-hop, brass, and African beats from 1 to 2 pm.
How much: Free admission, price of food

Celebrate Brooklyn! Presents: Theophilus London/ Les Nubians/ Aabaraki
When: Saturday July 6, 7 pm (doors at 6 pm)
Where: Prospect Park Bandshell
What: This weekend’s only Celebrate Brooklyn show brings Theophilus London– who has been compared to Prince, Andre 3000, PM Dawn, and a “boastful, macho Janelle Monáe”– along with “Afropean soul” by French-Cameroonian sisters Les Nubians and “stutter funk” of Brooklyn’s Aabaraki.
How much: $3 suggested donation

Banged Up Bingo
When: Sunday July 7, 8 pm
Where: Pork Slope, 247 Fifth Avenue
What: Bingo, prizes, giveaways, booze, the Pork Slope menu, and pie! What could be better?
How much: $5 buy-in

FOR THE KIDS

Macy’s Fishing Clinic
When: Saturdays and Sundays, 1 pm & 3 pm
Where: Prospect Park (Wellhouse Drive)
What: The popular program offers kids ages 15 & under the opportunity to fish. Participants will learn about aquatic ecology, fishing safety, and even get to collect their own bait. Kids must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
How much: Free!

Sigma Storytime
When: Saturday July 6, 12 – 1 pm
Where: Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza (Youth Wing)
What: Volunteers from the Brooklyn Alumni Chapter of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity read stories to children ages 3 to 8 on the first Saturday of every month.
How much: Free!

You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown
When: Saturday July 6, 7 pm
Where: Old Stone House, 336 Third Street (between 4th & 5th Avenues)
What: Piper Theatre Productions brings the Tony-award winning musical based on Charles M. Schulz’ beloved Peanuts gang to Washington Park. Bring a picnic! Beer and wine will be available for the grown-ups.
How much: Free!
