5th Avenue Key Food Has Reopened Under New Management
Following an unusual closure last fall — signs posted out front noted electrical issues — the Key Food at 493 5th Avenue, on the corner of 12th Street, has finally reopened, and from an initial look, the work they did while closed definitely seems like a big improvement.
After closing for those electrical issues, we hear there was a change in management — which delayed the opening — but they quietly reopened yesterday, as One More Folded Sunset and a few neighbors who emailed us noted, so we stopped in this morning to take a look around the revamped space.
Things have been moved around a bit, and it feels a bit more open, especially at the front. It looks like they’ve added more freezer and cold cases — though, as you can see in the photo above, they’re still in the process of stocking many of the shelves.
Still, they did have quite a bit in stock, and it is “more stocked than I’ve ever seen the shelves in that store stocked before,” remarked one neighbor, noting complaints about the old store, which was often out of stuff. Additionally, another neighbor said it looks like “some prices were better than C-Town.”
Overall, we’re encouraged by the change, and have our fingers crossed that the new management will take the store in a better direction — particularly while we continue to wait for the Associated Supermarket on the corner of 5th Avenue and 17th Street, which, despite telling us they’d be opening in December, remains eternally “coming soon.”
