4 Things To Do In South Slope This Week

The week may start off a little rainy, but that shouldn’t stop you from heading out to some great events right in the neighborhood. Here’s some of what’s going on in the area this week:

7th Annual LC Fest
When: Monday, August 12, 7:30pm
Where: Bar 4, 444 7th Avenue at 15th Street
What: It’s the final week for Bar 4, which is closing for good on Thursday, and they’re going out with a bang. The LC Fest has been going on for days, and tonight is the last of a concrete lineup, featuring: Andy Kirmayer, Rich Varroney, Craig Chesler, Sheryl Cohen, Jimmy Hoffman, Shannon Pelcher, WYATT, Matt Cranstoun, Matt Singer, The Bright Silence (pictured above), Derek Zimmerman, pinkwing, and SkyMs. Tomorrow is the final night of the fest, but it’s an open mic, and anyone and everyone is welcome to stop by to perform.

When: Tuesday, August 13, 2:30pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: It’s supposed to be pretty rainy on Tuesday — why not play some games with the kids? The library has a bunch of fun ones to try, and you’re welcome to stop by and check them out during this program.

Having a Whiskey Coke With You
When: Tuesday, August 13, 8pm
Where: Freddy’s Bar, 627 5th Avenue near 17th Street

The Palimpsestic Series, Featuring The Ches Smith Quartet
When: Wednesday, August 14, 8pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street
What: A new quartet with a rhythmic emphasis and a timbral improvisational bent plays new pieces based on numbers, biology, emotions, and the spirit. Jonathan Finlayson on trumpet, Mat Maneri on viola, Stephan Crump on bass, and Ches Smith on drums.
How much: $10 suggested donation
