Permits Filed To Bring Synagogue To Long-Vacant Boro Park Lot

Applications have been filed to turn the long-vacant lot at 1770 52 Street in Boro Park into a new three story synagogue. According to the permits, a business known as Heichal Hatfillah filed for the building.

The 37,163 square-foot synagogue will include a ritual bath, banquet hall, chapel, sanctuary, balconies and a 12,224-square-foot residentially zoned apartment. The development will be 60 feet tall and include a fence.

The architect of record is Karl Fischer, a Manhattan-based architect known for his glassy, boxy style and prolific building-spree in Williamsburg.

According to Department of Buildings records, it would appear that the lot has been vacant since 1991, when an application was filed for a full demolition of the previous structure, that assumedly being the car wash pictured in the tax photo below.
