You Need Acrobatic Elephants and Alley-Ooping Cats From Liz Starin
Illustrator and neighbor Liz Starin is on to something big — and not just that agile and elegant elephant in a leotard pictured above.
“I’ve enjoyed drawing animals ever since I discovered how funny they were,” wrote Liz, “the range of motion, the varied shapes and colors, the deadpan facial expressions. (It gets even better when you add clothes.) Besides, I often draw for kids, where you can get away with making your main character a polar bear.”
Liz just launched a Kickstarter campaign called Posters! Of animals! Playing sports! and, let’s be honest, these illustrations are pretty damn good. There are elephant acrobats, cats playing basketball (below) and a giraffe swimming. If you like the sound of this, the posters themselves are even better. Check them out.
Liz is looking to raise $4,000 to print high quality posters in various sizes. She’s already raised $947 and has until November 28 to finish fundraising. If you like the project, you can get posters yourself as a reward plus personal thanks from the artist for helping to complete her goal.
You may remember Liz — she made great art for us on this blog over the summer.
For a strong closing argument, here are two very focused cats in mid alley-oop.
