10 Old Photos Of Prospect Park To Remind You Spring Is On The Way

The recent dreary weather has us daydreaming about spring in Prospect Park — the picnics, the lazing about, the dogs and children and frisbee tossing! To remind us all what’s just around the corner (we hope), we’ve gathered some great old photos from Brooklyn Visual Heritage.

1. Blossoms!

Just remember your allergy meds, last year was a doozy.

2. Natty duds!

Remember a time before puffy coats and three layers of pants and shoes that aren’t boots? Or, even, bare feet?! Think of all the great hats you can wear!

3. Reel fun!

Catch-and-release fishing is allowed in certain areas, and if you don’t know how to fish, there are clinics to look forward to in the warmer weather.

4. Dining al fresco!

Know the barbecue rules, the first of which is “Don’t forget to invite us.”

5. The grass is your dancefloor!

Chaka Khan is the opener for the 2015 Celebrate Brooklyn season! Dancing required; maypole optional.

6. Come sail away!

Starting this summer, you’ll be able to rent paddle boats by Lakeside!

7. Fireworks, music, America!

The free Philharmonic performance (with fireworks!) returns in June, and then blink and it’s the Fourth of July.

8. Dog walking and watching!

True, there also used to be sheep watching, but we’ll make due with dogs.

9. Ridin’!

Bikes! Horses! And yes, even the occasional unicycle (not pictured).

10. L-U-V!

The birds and the bees, indeed.
