Young Boy In Stable Condition After Being Struck By Car On 5th Avenue

A young boy was struck by a car this morning at the intersection of 5th Avenue and Garfield Place, according to a spokesperson with the FDNY. The victim’s name and age have not been released. The incident happened at approximately 8am on Thursday, June 16.

The FDNY confirms the boy was taken to Methodist Hospital and is currently in stable condition.

DNAinfo reports that 28-year-old Abraham Ahary witnessed the aftermath at a deli in the vicinity. “”When I saw him, my heart dropped. He was sitting up, crying, ‘Ow, ow, ow,'” he told the news outlet.

The incident took place three blocks away from MS51 – William Alexander Middle School (350 5th Avenue between 4th and 5th Streets).

The NYPD does not have information about the driver — or whether the incident was a hit and run. “When there aren’t life threatening injuries, we often don’t receive information,” said an NYPD spokesperson.
