Woman Escapes Attempted Rape On 16th Street; Cops Release Footage [VIDEO]

A 34-year-old woman escaped from an attempted rape early Sunday morning in front of 586 16th Street (between Prospect Park Southwest and 11th Avenue), according to the NYPD. The incident took place at approximately 3:50am on Sunday, June 26.

Cops say the victim was walking on 16th Street when the suspect approached her from behind, grabbed her, and proceeded to lift up her dress and pull at her underwear. The suspect then knocked the victim to the ground and struck her numerous times about the body, attempting to sexually assault her.

The victim then kicked at the suspect, who became frustrated and then fled. Police say the victim refused medical attention.

Police describe the suspect as male, white, having curly black hair, approximately 20-30 years old, 5’11”, and 180 lb. He was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt and pants.

The incident took place blocks away from both P.S. 154 – The Windsor Terrace School as well as Vanderbilt Street Playground just inside Prospect Park.

Several incidents have taken place nearby or within Prospect Park over the last few months, including a May 22 attempted rape on 2nd Street, and a jogger who fought off an attacker on April 20.
