Windsor Terrace Greenmarket Celebrates Fall With Apples, Cider, Donuts & More
It may still feel pretty hot outside these days, but it’s beginning to look a lot like fall at the Windsor Terrace Greenmarket (11th Avenue between Sherman and Windsor Place). Besides an explosion of apples and pears on the stands, delicious and colorful fall squash is beginning to make its way into market baskets. Last week, Fishkill Farms featured four types of early apples and moonglow pears, with only more apples and cider to come. Cider donuts, anyone?
If you’re getting the end-of-summer blues, not to fret – the market still has heirloom tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, peaches, and salad greens galore! But come quick, or they’ll be gone before you can say pumpkin.
To mark the beginning of school this week, the greenmarket’s info tent will be offering family-friendly and easy recipes for healthy school lunches and dinners using market ingredients. This week’s cooking demo is a classic fish and chips using American seafood cod. Plus, you’ll be able to find out how to make healthier alternatives to fried potatoes.
