Police are searching for two men who stabbed a 42-year-old man to death Friday night just steps away from his home in Greenpoint.

George Carroll, an actor and playwright originally from Texas, was walking near McGolrick Park with his wife, Christina Romero Carroll, at approximately 9:30pm on Friday, August 18, when they passed two men in front of 155 Monitor Street located on the block the couple moved to just six months earlier, according to the New York Daily News.

One of the suspects allegedly asked Carroll, “What are you looking at?” prompting an argument that led to the two men chasing Carroll and one of them stabbing him in the chest, DNA Info reports.

Carroll was taken to Woodhull Hospital where he was pronounced dead, the NYPD reported.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.

Romero Carroll started a Go Fund Me page on Sunday, August 20, to help pay for her husband’s wake and burial.

“My husband George was a victim of a random act of violence and his death was unexpected,” she states on the fundraising page.

“George was a playwright and actor who loved deeply and passionately. He was fiercely loyal, and stood up for what was right. His faith was his true north and he attended Mass daily.”

“I’m asking for your help because I’d like to respect my husband’s wishes for his wake and burial,” she adds.

In one day, the page has received over $15,000 in donations—almost double its goal of $8,000.
