Who Steals A Plant From A Street Tree Bed?

Seriously? The Flatbush Development Corporation posted yesterday on Twitter that a hydrangea that they’d planted in a street tree bed outside their office on Newkirk Avenue had been dug up and stolen. You’ll note that it was planted by volunteers in a public place for everyone to enjoy.

Here are two of the hardworking ladies in 2012, Robin Redmond of the FDC and Mavis Theodore of NANA, who have done a great job helping the street look so much nicer.

We’ve heard of porch furniture being lifted, have noticed decorative greens being snipped away, and have even seen an FDR memorial snatched, but this one’s new to us. Can’t we have nice, public things?
