While Waiting For Pastificio Flora, Pastificio Flora Is Waiting

A new Italian restaurant has sat dormant for months, and the co-owner is frustrated with the approval process.

Pastificio Flora (1021 8th Avenue at 11th Street) plans to serve authentic Italian food. In an article by DNAinfo, co-owner Emiliano Cammardella said that the majority of Italian restaurants in New York “are just ‘Italian sounding restaurants’ with an outdated stereotyped menu and interiors made of wood, red-checked tablecloth, wine bottles, barrels, wagon wheels, fishing nets and the statue of ‘the dear old little man’ with [an] enormous moustache holding a sad looking pizza.”

While an article by Here’s Park Slope reported about the restaurant’s presence in early August, there has been very little movement seen at the building since then.

When we contacted Cammardella in early September, he wrote, “we are still working with papers and drawings with DOB [NYC Department of Buildings]  and landmark [NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission].”

As of this week, Cammardella says they are “still waiting for an answer by Landmark and DOB. We confess that we are going to be a little upset about that.”

We’re unaware of the specific details preventing the business from moving forward, but we’ll let you know specifics as the process continues.
